In 2009, the Bruce Lee Foundation began work in earnest on a Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do Manual. The idea behind the creation of such a manual is for the BLF to be able to put forth a complete picture of the art of Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do – technical, philosophical, historical and practical. The idea is to provide readers with the intention behind Bruce Lee’s JKD and what he was teaching and promoting in his lifetime. From there, the Manual will take a look at the path JKD has taken since Bruce Lee’s passing and offer discussions on how JKD has evolved and what it means to make JKD your own. The Manual will also take a look at the historical development of JKD by its founder, Bruce Lee. It will trace the teachings from Wing Chun to Jun Fan Gung Fu to Jeet Kune Do so that the reader can understand the impetus behind the formation of the term Jeet Kune Do and what inspired Bruce Lee to create this art. The Manual will also seek to make a solid connection between the philosophical and the physical by tying specific techniques to specific philosophical tenets with frequency and regularity.
The Manual will be put together with the help of the Board of the BLF and the JFJKD Advisory Committee. Shannon and Linda will oversee the creation of the Manual step by step along with the help of many of Bruce’s first and second generation students. The utmost care will be given to this project and we will endeavor to relate the core of this book back to Bruce Lee and his writings and teachings at every opportunity.
The Manual is a long term project of the Bruce Lee Foundation, which will require a lot of time and energy from many different parties to bring it to fruition. We hope to be able to offer the Manual to you by 2011 and we appreciate your patience as we work on this project. We will keep you updated on our progress in our News and Events section as well as on the Walk On Blog so please check in to see how it is going.
